Founded by ASAI Takashi in 1987. It started out as a film distribution company, distributing and co-producing films of the English director, Derek Jarman. UPLINK has been focusing on art and independent films and documentaries mainly for its distribution. In 2016, UPLINK was an investor in “Endless Poetry,” the surreal fantasy by Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky. Located in Shibuya, Tokyo, UPLINK has multipurpose place with a cafe & restaurant, bar, gallery, shop and so-called micro mini theaters. After around 20 years of running micro-mini theater in Shibuya with 3 screens since 1999, in December 2018, UPLINK has teamed with a department store group PARCO to open a five-screen complex cinema as our new cinema in Kichijoji, in west Tokyo.
